.........Tuscany's most beautiful. Legend has it that the monastery was founded in 781 by Charlemagne, the Holy Roman Emperor, even though the earliest surviving sections of the present church only date back to the IX century. Most of it was however built in 1118, in the French Romanesque style.

Before reaching Montalcino we will stop at a winery to taste their Brunello, whilst having a wine cellars guided tour and listening to the estate prestigious wine story.

Upon reaching Montalcino we will dine in a simple and genuine restaurant (Trattoria), and then we proceed toward Montalcino, wander through the town's narrow winding streets, climbing up to the Fortezza, the XIV century fortress that the Sienese troops withdrew to when Siena fell to Florence in 1555. It still has the Sienese battle standard in one of the halls upstairs, while the ground floor has a well-stocked enoteca where you will be able to sample Brunello by the glass. The view from the ramparts is spectacular.
