.......Asciano. It stands in the extraordinary land of countless clay hills called crete senesi, in the southern part of the province of Siena, and the heart of what once was the Siennese Republic. The excursion' main focus is to have you discover and embrace the Tuscan landscape rich with with its colours, tastes, and spirit.

The Crete senesi are white, brown or ochre cliffs sometimes coated with a gold colour, similar to wheat before harvest time. At the top of each hill sits a characteristic solitary Cypres tree.

From the brightness of the clay hills when exposed to the sun, to the red bricks of the Monte Oliveto Maggiore Abbey, the real spiritual heart of this territory, this land is civilised yet wild at the same time. You will visit the monastery to see the frescoes from the Stories of San Benedetto da Norcia painted by Luca Signorelli and the Sodoma. The abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore, where the Olivetan Order was founded, is one of the most interesting in Italy. You will then enjoy a typical Tuscan lunch in a restaurant.

Your taste buds will be further satisfied in Montalcino, a little town mindful of the Middle Ages, a place renowned in Italy for its Brunello wine. Here you can taste the Brunello di Montalcino and a Rosso di Montalcino in a typical Tuscan winery. You will be back in Florence between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.
